What it means to be a 21st Century school.
21st century education is about providing students with the skills they need to succeed
Our academic program (and syllabus) is an agreed framework through which knowledge is gained, skills are developed, and experience is widened. It is continuous across grades and phases and is aimed at allowing learners to write their final Grade 12 exit examination with internationally recognised qualifications.
Our academic program is supported by the Pearson International Curriculum, which not only meets all the curriculum expectations of the South African National Curriculum, (CAPS) but is significantly enriched in specifically Mathematics, the Sciences, and English.
Our academic program and subject syllabi are continuously reviewed and revised to ensure that it remains relevant and that it serves 21st century learning in an integrated manner. Our academic program will help learners with meeting the following aims:-
Cross-curricular themes include personal identity, citizenship, economic awareness, health and physical education, the arts and environmental education.
Extra-curricular activities, which enrich or extend the curriculum, include sporting, musical, and dramatic clubs and events, excursions, incursion, festivals/fetes, focus activity weeks and projects, and community programs.
Our academic program matches the needs of individuals – we are not all the same, and the different learning needs of individuals are central to the planning and implementation of the school’s academic program and the execution of curriculum. All learners have equal rights of access to each curriculum area. We also offer a flexible approach.
The different demands of each learning- and skill- development area, and the varied learning needs of individuals, require
corresponding flexibility of teaching methods. Opportunity for direct instruction, peer-, collaborative-, and independent learning are equally important.
Learners involve themselves actively in the process of their own learning. They:-
Our academic program is continuous across stages. Syllabi are arranged so that a learner’s progress is continuous both within and across the learning phases and learning areas alike and that practices are consistent. The experience gathered in one phase or area of the curriculum can then be built upon in the next.
Our academic program is also aimed at realising learner potential. Accurate assessment is the key to individual progress. To set appropriate challenges and to ensure consistent learning within the zone of proximal development, an educator must be able to make informed judgements about a learner’s potential, based on a clear understanding of what that learner knows and can do. Learners themselves must reflect on their successes and their difficulties.
